It is no secret that Black’s Tire Service is strongly grounded in family values and family principles. Ricky and Diane Benton have instilled the importance of these values throughout the company. In fact their Mission Statement begins, “Black’s Tire Service is primarily a family business with a family atmosphere…” One only has to be around Ricky and Diane a brief time to clearly see that children and family are important to them, their family, and all the staff of Black’s Tire. Perhaps that is one of the reasons they provide such generous support to Boys and Girls Homes of NC and have been personally involved for many years.
Boys and Girls Homes of NC is a residential and foster care/adoption agency for neglected, abused, and hurting children. The children are provided safety and security in a home-like, family-style cottage with Teaching Parents who provide guidance, support and discipline. Educational opportunities are afforded through the Boys and Girls Homes School serving grades 5 – 12 and later, the opportunity to attend college or technical school is there. Spiritual needs are met through our Chapel ministry, staffed by a full-time Chaplain with all the influences of a non-denominational, Christian setting.
Early on, Black’s Tire was involved in the work of the Homes. Mr. Crowell Black served as a member of the original Board of Trustees. Since 2002, Ricky, Diane, their family and the staff of Black’s Tire have been coordinating and sponsoring a charity golf tournament in conjunction with the USA Race Series in Myrtle Beach. The tournament began with an idea to provide an outlet for the race teams visiting the area to relax and socialize. From that it became a means of supporting the positive work of Boys and Girls Homes. The tournament proceeds have grown from $6,000 in 2002 to an astounding $50,200 in 2008!
This year’s tournament is scheduled for June 19 at Myrtle Beach National Golf Club and is followed by the USA Race Series on Saturday, June 20. Anyone interested in being a sponsor of the event, or participating in the tournament as a player please contact Ray Cockrell, Boys and Girls Homes, at 910.646.3083 or Rick Benton, Jr., Black’s Tire Service, at 910.642.4123. Tournament Sponsorships (Platinum – $3.500, Gold – $2,500, Silver – $1,500, Bronze – $1,000) include varying levels of signage at Myrtle Beach National Golf Club, hotel and hospitality opportunities at the race, and tickets to the race. Hole sponsorships are available for $500 (hole sign on golf course and race tickets) and $250 (hole sign on golf course). If your needs are not met by these packages, please contact us to discuss how you may be involved.
Speaking on behalf of Black’s Tire, Ricky Benton stated that “We are proud to give our support to an organization whose mission is to help children who need someone to be involved in their lives. If we can help even one child overcome their hurts and have opportunities to be productive, then we are all better off for it.”
Gary Faircloth, President of Boys and Girls Homes noted that, “Black’s Tire Service has a legacy in serving the children of Boys and Girls Homes and the children are very fortunate to have the support of that organization. Thank you Ricky, Diane and Black’s Tire for your community involvement and support of the children!”
